Video Production Training / Workshop Batch 2

Written by buddy. Posted in Talks

At November 10-12, the 2nd batch of my video production training / workshop was held. This time it was the staff of Gentleshots Studio based in Angat Bulacan whom I taught.

Every training is different from the other because you need to customize the lessons based on the skills and expectations of your participants. In the case of Genleshots, we had an actual shooting of a prenup wedding video.

Day 1 – I conducted a lecture on the principles of video production and actual pre-production activities like conceptualization and coordination.

Day 2 – shooting day. Here the team realizes the importance of getting ready prior to the actual shooting day – from time management, props and costumes, logistics, camera works and even prioritizing scenes to be taken based on time and location.

Day 3 – the session started evaluating the 2-day activities, and since we were working on an actual video production project, and it is experience-based, the students understand it better.

The highlight of Day 3, though, was the editing. Here, planning before doing the actual work is the most important thing to do to make it sure all the footages will be maximized. Media management, as well as media conversions were also discussed.

The team is very cooperative and dedicated to learn. Thank you to Sir Nestor Francisco Silvestre, the owner of Gentleshots for choosing us to conduct a training for his new breed of staffs. Thank you also for the hospitality.

Also to Jasper Bala, another participant who came from Masbate and joined us.

Video Production Workshop

Written by buddy. Posted in Talks

October 24-26. My Video Production workshop was a success. These new breed of artists today are highly creative, and teaching them how to properly execute video production principles, techniques, (especially) pre-production, writing and video editing based on broadcast standard, will make them excel in this field. I observed that a lot of these young people have the eyes and creativity in getting footages, but they lack knowledge in pre-production and editing.

Old school thinking will not give you any benefit nowadays. Therefore, sharing your knowledge and experiences is just right because with this generation, giving what you know will not put you into competition but rather into more opportunities.

I’m also planning to conduct free workshop soon for Mass Communications, Multi-Media and IT college students. Watch out!

Pinoy Video Maker EB in Cebu

Written by buddy. Posted in Talks

Thanks to Nat Cruz, Junnel Maranan and Mario Suing, the organizers of the Pinoy Video Maker EB in Cebu. This even was even bigger than the EB held in Pasay last May 23, 2010. It was a humbling experience to be with Jason Magbanua as the speakers for the event. Indeed it was fulfilling when participants told me they were delighted by the insights I presented to them. My talk was entitled Market Segmentation and Positioning for wedding video business citing Reality Wedding Video by Buddy Gancenia as the case study.

Side stories:

It was a great dinner with Ms. Becky Smith, my former boss in Negosyete and Agrisiyete who treated us in her pizza restaurant. I like the pizza with anchovy sauce and the frozen Brazo de Mercedes.

We also had our shopping dried dangit for pasalubong. And of course a picture taking at the Magellan’s cross completed the city tour.

But another thing that completed my trip was the fact that I got a corporate client just because of my FB status update while in Cebu. Mok Arda, get ready because we will be going back to Cebu a few weeks from now.

Market Segmentation and Positioning

Written by buddy. Posted in Talks

What I like in conducting talks is learning more about my topic. Preparing my talk on Market Segmentation and Positioning for wedding video business for the Pinoy Video Maker mini-eyeball last March 23, 2010, made me open my handouts during my diploma course on Enterprise Competitiveness at DLS-CSB (SPaCE).

I’m not an expert in business and marketing, but my current business model works for me so I believe this could help other wedding videographers as well.  And based on feedbacks I got, somehow participants realized that everybody have their own market share in the wedding video industry. No need to worry about the big players for even they have weaknesses and there is always a certain market not viable for them, and this, on the other hand, serves as a market niche for the smaller players.

The feature on BusinessWorld Magazine issue for March 2010, about me and Reality Wedding Video is the same business model I talked about during my presentation.

Here’s my slide presentation.

Online Campus Journalism by Smart Communications Inc. (SMART)

Written by buddy. Posted in Talks

Last December 8-10, I was in Cebu City not to cover an event but as a speaker in a workshop attended by 30 students from various colleges and universities in Cebu. The seminar and workshop entitled Online Campus Journalism was organized by Smart Communications Inc. (SMART) as part of its efforts in promoting campus journalism and online content generation. The event aimed to educate student journalists of the potentials of the Internet and new media as effective channels of campus journalism.

My talk was on Video production and video blogging. I shared with the student journalists and professors my expert opinion and practical advice on pre-production, shooting and video editing techniques. Since they are campus journalists, considering that they may have or not have professional equipment, I also included talk on vlogging using camera phone, uploading to the web and optimizing the post with simple story and title.

Thanks to Ms. Nick Wilwayco, Manager of Online Services/e-Publishing of the Public Affairs Group of Smart Communications Inc. for believing that working with me was an invaluable learning experience for the participating young writers.

Here is my presentation.
